Father’s Day Present….To Buy or Not To Buy, This is the Question

Some of you may remember my post from last month where I lamented the lack of any Mother’s Day gifts.

The Mother’s Day Gift Compare

And yes, I am writing this a full two days after my post on how to avoid the big ‘D’.

The Big ‘D’

Those things aside, the question remains.

We are in a ‘season’ (much like winter in Minnesota, never ending!) of being totally broke. With layoffs and whatnot we have been having trouble staying afloat, even with using Craigslist as a way to make money selling as much stuff as humanly possible.

But at the same time, I really want to buy my husband a gift (if you’re wondering, yes, he reads the blog, and yes, he will now not be surprised! lol).

Gifts are my love language (see above Mother’s Day post). Receiving them and buying them.

He says he doesn’t want anything, but I know that’s in part to release himself of leftover guilt from Mother’s Day.

Part of me doesn’t want to buy him one because I didn’t get one. Then another part wants to buy one to be the ‘better’ spouse! lol

I’ve got problems, that much is obvious!

Then, there is this totally sweet and honest part of me (trust me, it’s there somewhere). My dad died when I was 14, and while he wasn’t a bad father, he certainly wasn’t the best either. And my husband is a terrific father, something I think is worth celebrating!

So, I want to get something that is not just for him, but for him as a father.

My idea? A slackline! You might have seen the crazy haired guy bouncing around on one while Madonna sang during the 2012 Superbowl halftime show. (I’ll let you youtube it yourself, I don’t want to be the one linking to Madonna, lol)

So my thought process here; it’s cool, it’s something we can put in our backyard, it’s something he’d enjoy, it’s something he can do with our kids and it’s something to keep the kids busy this summer!

They are not cheap though. They start at around $60 and go way up from there. (yes, I think that’s expensive, remember we are dirt poor).

I think I might try to make one using hardware store webbing (at least 2″) and ratchets. If however, you see a brand name one sparkling in our backyard, don’t judge! :-)

I Still Totally Need Your Help! Time is Running Out!

I’m going on a missions trip to Panama this July, and I need your help to get there (time’s getting short, I’ve got less than 1 week left)!

Check out these posts about why I’m going and what I’ll be doing.
